2017, Makeup, My Favorites, new year

January 2017 Favorites

I can’t believe January is already over! I have this weird thing with the passage of time, though. Shane gives me a hard time because I freak out over little things, like the fact that 1990 was almost 30 years ago, or the fact that almost all the kids born in the year 2000 are in their junior year of high school now. He says, “Yeah, babe. That’s how time works.” He’s pretty laid-back and doesn’t give too much thought to these things. Whatever. Regardless, here we are, with one month of 2017 already under our belts, and I’ve got some fun things to share with y’all. Let’s do this!

L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro‑Matte Foundation
I’ve noticed that I’m becoming more and more a L’Oréal girl as I get older. I’ve been using their True Match Mineral Foundation for quite some time now, and I still use it when I’m in a time crunch, but the Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation is where it’s at, y’all. As I’ve mentioned before (and as I’m sure you can figure out based on my need for matte foundation), I have really oily skin. Like, it’s bad. Even my eyelids are oily. And while it is mostly confined to my T-zone, I can usually feel it all over. This foundation covers well, but you can’t feel it at all. Even after covering it with a matte setting powder, it still is weightless. Score big for that one. Plus, by the end of the day, I come out with no shine! No, seriously! Don’t get me wrong; if I happen to touch my face, I can see the oil on my hand, but you wouldn’t be able to tell just be looking at me. And I don’t feel like it just settles into creases or anything. It is seriously just there to make you look flawless. Thanks, L’Oréal!

L’Oréal Infallible Blend Artist Foundation Blender

Yes, it’s dirty; I use it everyday.

Next up, we have their blender sponge. Here’s the thing; I haven’t actually used a makeup blender before. I’ve never used a Beauty Blender or any of the off-brands. The only reason I bought this, was because Rachel of RachhLoves did a review on it in her “Drugstore Haul Update” video and she really liked it. At only $6.99, I figured now was the time to try a makeup blender, and I was not disappointed. It’s way easier to use than any other method of applying foundation I’ve ever tried, plus I noticed that it uses much less of the foundation for the same (probably better, honestly) look!

Maybelline Color Sensational® Inti-Matte Nudes in Almond Rose
I feel like, at some point, most of us has wanted a lipstick shade that’s “like our lips, but better”. That’s how Almond Rose is for me; it’s close enough to my own lip shade that it doesn’t look dramatic, but it still gives me some relatively noticeable color. It’s a great neutral for whatever look you’re going for, and it’s so smooth to apply, as all of Maybelline’s Color Sensational lipstick line is, and I feel like it would be good on any skin color.

I finally did it! I finally got one of my desks! Since my main focus is on writing, now, I’ve been in need of a dedicated writing/office desk. I’ve had this one on my list for quite awhile now, but just hadn’t gotten the chance to go get it and bring it home. I finally did this month and was so excited about it, that I immediately went home and put it together. That’s also the night that I did my craft room re-do post. It’s the perfect size for my stuff (though wall shelves are still in the plans), and since I opted for the white on white, it matches the look I’m going for perfectly!

Overnight Oats
If you’ve ever read any of my favorites posts before, you know that it’s usually a mash up of a bunch of random things that I’ve bought or tried in that month/season/whatever. I’m not sure what possessed me to try them (probably because I already had most of the ingredients on hand, and YouTube), but I am SO glad I did. You can make any flavor combinations you want and they are so filling and delicious. Just make sure you warm them up before you eat them.

Scotch Thermal Laminator

This is another office supply item that I’ve been wanting/intending to buy and put off, but I finally bought it and do not regret it. I’ve used this model many times before, but didn’t have one of my own until about two weeks ago. I’ve already laminated three things and have plans for a few more in the near future. It’s very easy to use, and I buy the Walmart brand thermal laminator pouches, because a 50-pack is way cheaper than the Scotch brand.

My Meal Planning Chart
This is one of the things I laminated the day I got my laminator. I started realizing that I was wasting so much paper every time I printed out a new weekly menu page. I made this because, now that I’m not working full-time, I’m not bringing in as much money which means I’ve been really focusing on cooking more and eating out less. My week starts on Monday because that’s how my planner is set up, so it’s easy for me to follow. You can download it here. If you share it, please make sure you give credit and link back to this blog post.

Trader Joe’s Coffee Cups
I love my Keurig. I use it multiple times a day for different things, the most important of which is coffee. When I first started drinking coffee regularly, I stuck to a blonde roast because I wasn’t super into the richer, bolder flavors, but now that it’s a staple in my life and the key to a semi-productive day, I love me a medium roast. It’s a bit tricky trying to find coffee that’s convenient and tastes good, but these little cups are amazing. They’re so incredibly smooth and fragrant, and you get a box of 12 for $4.99! Now I have a hard time justifying buying any other coffee from anywhere else.

MAMBI Happy Planner

I bought the gift set for my sister for Christmas, but had been wanting one for myself, so I got one when they were on sale just after. I love it so freaking much. Every year I buy a new planner and swear that I’m going to use it and then never do, so when Shane made a comment about it being silly that I was getting a new one because I wouldn’t keep up with it, I decided to let that be my motivation to really be serious about it. I have gone a bit crazy with accessories and pens, but I honestly am so thankful for it because I would never remember anything without it.

The West Wing
Okay, this isn’t a new one, and it’s honestly not even new to me. I used to watch this show when it was on the air with my parents. We’d all watch it together as a family. It didn’t have a whole lot of meaning to me back then (I was only 8 when it aired its first episode), but I remember being comforted by the characters and intrigued by the plotlines and it began my deep love and appreciation for Aaron Sorkin. Recently, I started watching the series again, from the beginning, and I’m finding it so relevant and again, comforting, and can we just say “Bartlet 2020”? LOL! But seriously, Josh Lyman will always be bae. I ❤ Bradley Whitford so much.

That’s it, my loves. I hope you all had a decent first month of 2017. I know it’s been pretty rough here recently, and I want to end this post by reminding each of you that you are a powerful, precious, holy being who deserves love and joy always.

  1. Angel, great that you got a writing desk! Bill and I got one for me, and I am in love with my desk. You might want to put up some inspirational writing quotes. I put up two. One says “The worst thing you write is better than the best thing you didn’t write.” (author unknown), and the other says “The beautiful part of writing is that you don’t have to get it right the first time, unlike, say, a brain surgeon.”-Robert Cormier.
It reminds me to go for it, every day!
