May Favorites

My favorites list for May is relatively short, but there are some things I feel strongly about. I didn’t include some items I tried over the past week or so because I want to give myself a chance to really try them out before I decide whether or not they’re a true favorite (because you know I like to do a yearly favorites roundup in December/January). That means everything on this list has been something I’ve enjoyed over the past month.

In no particular order, here they are:

Pixel Art

screenshot_20180530-224746_google-play-store-14924262684058011575.jpgThis is an app I downloaded on a whim one day. I started playing it in between my time on Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery (fun one to pass the time, especially for Potterheads), and then got completely sucked in. Like, borderline unhealthy. But it’s such a great way to pass the time and zone out. Plus, it’s so relaxing and when I couldn’t fall asleep, I’d turn the blue light filter on and play it until I started to doze off. There are other pixel art games out there that do pretty much the same thing, but if you need an activity on your phone to let you go zen for a bit, this is a good one.

Nail Lounge Allen

I can’t remember the last time I got my nails done before earlier this month. No joke, actual years. Plural. So, when my sister suggested we go get our nails done, I was pretty excited and a little nervous – she wanted to do pedicures, too, and I’d never had one. I suggested Nail Lounge because they had great Yelp reviews and a Pinterest-worthy Instagram feed, plus one of my girlfriends got her nails done there and is pretty loyal to them when she’s in town. I wanted to try the dip powder nails and was not disappointed. I got Hanna the first time I went, and she was super patient with me, and then really funny and down-to-earth when we got into the groove of things. The first set she did was the long pink and silver ones. The second set is where she really shined, though. She took on the tedious task of doing these ombre nails like a freaking champ and rocked it. I even asked for her specifically the second time. Also, they give you free wine.

“Good Thing” by Leon Bridges

Story time: I first learned about Leon Bridges when I was working at a preschool and the music teacher played his album on her record player (the kids loved the record player). I fell in love almost immediately. When Sara (from this post) posted a screenshot of his new album on her Insta, I got so excited that I downloaded it on Spotify and have been listening to it at least three times a week ever since. He’s very soulful and you can hear it in his voice and the music, but he’s also young and fun.

Mary Kay Gel Liner Duo

Another MK product on my favorites list, but surprisingly, not one from my days as a consultant. My bff Trista’s dad won a raffle, and after she took all the nail polish out, she gave me the makeup. I started using the eyeliner because I ran out of my default one, and it’s so pretty! I use the darker one, and though it’s not dark, it’s still really pretty. It’s just the right amount of metallic and the brush it comes with is surprisingly good at winging it. And it’s a gel liner, so it stays pretty well, and when it does fade, it fades gradually so it doesn’t look crazy.

Trader Joe’s Green Goddess Dressing

Green Goddess

Y’all. I love salads. I pretty much always have and will eat pretty much any kind. But when I saw that Remi Cruz suggested it in her healthy eating video, I went out and bought it. It’s got really strong flavors, so I definitely suggest brushing your teeth after eating it, but it’s so fresh and really just livens up a salad, even if you’re just eating a bowl of lettuce. I’ll sometimes even put it on m sandwiches as a flavorful spread. So good.

Apothic Dark Red

Last, but most certainly not least, is Apothic Dark Red. Kristin and I tried it when we were doing a red wine tasting for a Partners in Wine meeting, and of the three reds we tried, this was the best. We finished the bottle. So far I’d have to say I haven’t tried an Apothic wine that I didn’t like. Up next will definitely be their rose.

That’s it for May, y’all. Summer is practically upon us (it’s supposed to be 103 on Saturday – about 39 for everyone that uses celcius) and I’m trying not look ahead to September already. So hard. Anywho, I hope you all had a fantastic month and I’ll see you in June.

Love,
Angel
