I hope you’re all well and I wanted to give a brief update on what I’ve been up to lately.
It’s been a while (with only one post in between) since I’ve sat down and really wrote out some blog posts that I was excited about, or even thought of something about which to write.
The past few months have been both exciting and the same.
I’ve been baking more (which you might know if you follow me on Instagram) and that became my main focus for quite a while. I’ve whipped up shortbread cookies, palmiers, cake balls, red velvet cake, banoffee pie (which actually doesn’t require baking), lemon bars, whoopie pies, and chocolate chip cookies.
Shane got me a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer as an early Valentine’s Day present and I’ve been using it almost non-stop for everything from my cookies to icing to shredding chicken for Crockpot meals. That thing is handy AF.
I have plans to make Snickerdoodle cookies next, but I also want to try my hand at a Victoria sponge cake (I’ve already got the raspberry jam) and a chocolate cake. Oh! And also lemon cake balls.
I’m also in the process of finding a new job.
I think the hardest part about that this time around, is that I actually like my job and the people with whom I work. It’s the first job I’ve had in… probably EVER, where I wasn’t just dying to get out for the sake of my sanity.
I’m looking, now, for a job that could be a career for me. Somewhere I will stay a while and move up. Somewhere that will allow me to go back to school and actually use that degree. Also, I need a full-time job and I just don’t have that option where I’m at currently.
Which brings me to my next update: we’re looking to possibly buy a house this summer!
And that means I’ve been looking at decor and furniture and starting to purge stuff that I don’t want to take with us. We’ve accumulated quite a collection of crap in the last 6 years being in this apartment.
I’ve narrowed down my living room and kitchen styles, and my craft room/office inspiration is still the same (though the plans will have to be reworked once I find out the layout of the new space) but I still can’t figure out what my bedroom style is.
I had some ideas when I thought we’d be staying in this apartment longer, but now that my options of painting the walls have changed, I’m scrapping all of that and starting over.
Maybe I’ll do a blog post on my home decor inspiration.
I’ve made new friends, spent more time with old ones, and ended friendships over the last few months.
I’ve reopened my Poshmark closet in an effort to really get rid of clothes and make some money from them before they just get donated.
I’ve bought new kitchen gadgets and pans that I’ve been using more (and that will be included in a January/February Favorites post).
I listened to the entire Harry Potter book series on audiobook for the first time ever (have actually read the series plenty of times, though) which was interesting and really helped me absorb the series better without feeling like I have to cease all other activity to do so.
I’ve started doing my makeup almost every day again. Mostly in an effort to get used to doing it regularly for work and figure out how long it actually takes me. Also, I’ve finally included eyeshadow into that routine. I know that seems silly to some people, but eyeshadow has always eluded and baffled me. It didn’t seem worth it. I’m seeing now that it is.
I’ve been watching more HGTV and Shane had the audacity (😉) to come home from a 13-hour workday and tell me, “Nope. I’m not putting up with this until August.” 😂😂 Apparently I’d been watching it on my phone the night before, too, and he just knew it’d become a regular thing. Which it kinda has. But mostly only the shows where they fix up the older houses with the buyer’s budget instead of rehabbing old houses and then selling those (Fixer Upper, Home Town, Property Brothers, etc). I kind of feel like I’m seeing into my future.
I think that’s about it. That’s really got to be all the updates I’ve got. If not, maybe I’ll do another post.
