I’ve accumulated quite a few things over the year. Here are my favorites of my favorites. Continue reading “2017 Favorites”
As I sit here gorging myself on popcorn, and trying to cool off after taking the flat-lay picture of all this stuff outside, I’m reminded why I enjoy having a blog so much – I love to write! It’s seriously that simple. Even if no one read this blog, I still would keep writing on it and sharing my thoughts, because it’s who I am, and it’s a nice way to get it all out. I thought about making this post a video, but honestly, I don’t have the patience or equipment for that, so here’s lots of words for you to read. Or not.
I can’t believe January is already over! I have this weird thing with the passage of time, though. Shane gives me a hard time because I freak out over little things, like the fact that 1990 was almost 30 years ago, or the fact that almost all the kids born in the year 2000 are in their junior year of high school now. He says, “Yeah, babe. That’s how time works.” He’s pretty laid-back and doesn’t give too much thought to these things. Whatever. Regardless, here we are, with one month of 2017 already under our belts, and I’ve got some fun things to share with y’all. Let’s do this!
**DISCLAIMER: I was given these products for free to try and review. All opinions are my own.**
Storytime: Shane gets his hair cut at Pro Cuts near our apartment, and when the manager, Carlita Smith, learned that I have a blog, she gave Shane some lipsticks for me to try and write about. Carlita, I am SO sorry it’s taken me so long to do this. Thank you for the amazing products!
It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten dressed up enough to wear lipstick, but I finally decided to last night when we went out for a good friend’s birthday. Plus, Shane had been bugging me to wear the lipstick so I could review it. I received two colors: Tarsha, I really pretty shimmery lighter pink that looks much better on me now that I’m a little tanner thanks to being outside more (versus the palest pale I am during winter), and Carlita, a fire engine red that is smooth as butter and super gorgeous.
Carlita, as previously mentioned, is a bright red with orange tones and nicely pigmented. I loved how smoothly it went on and lasted without staining my lips at the end of the night. I wore it for five hours and put it through four alcoholic beverages, half a chicken tenders and fries basket, a few cups of water, kisses from the hubby, and no reapplication. My lips, though worn, were still bright red by the end of the night. That is a feat in and of itself. Also, and this is my favorite part, at no point did my lips feel dry or like I needed to lick them. Granted, I put my homemade peppermint lip balm on before application, but I do that with every lippie (except matte) and still experience dryness with some brands. Good job, Carlita!
This is a really sweet pink. Almost cotton candy colored, but with a bit more depth and shimmer. It didn’t go on as smoothly as Carlita did, but with my lip balm on first, it was fine. Originally I tried this back in January when I’d received it and was not a fan of the color on me. With my pale skin, it washed me out. Now that the weather is nicer (not that we actually had a winter here in North Texas this year) and I’ve gotten tanner, it looks much nicer on me. I could definitely see myself wearing it out and about and it’s the perfect color for the warmer weather. My recommendation, if you want to buy this color, wear a pigmented liner underneath, and if you’re on the fairer side, I would avoid it. But honestly, I’m not exactly Gold Coast tan over here, so you have to be almost glowing in order for it not to work on you.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend this brand to others. I’m especially excited to try the liquid lipsticks because it’s a product that’s intrigued me for a bit. You can find Carlita Luxury on Facebook, Instagram, and on the website. She does more than makeup, though. She carries all sorts of accessories for men and women, and she knows her stuff. If you’re looking to buy from a small business, I would absolutely recommend Carlita.
